I’ve been waiting for bow season to start with a lot of anticipation. Over the last year or so I’ve lost access to almost all my local properties except a small farm so over the summer I got to planning some other hunts and it’s kind of weird to say but losing access to my local spots has been one of the best things that’s happened to me as a hunter.
I’ll be kicking of deer season with a trip to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for 2 full days of bowhunting a great farm with a friend of mine. I’ll be after the bucks in the feature image at the top there. Lots of crazy rack freaks on the property some still in full velvet! That said, I’ll be perfectly happy to bag a doe. I’ll also be hunting some throughout the season in Southern Maryland where not too long ago we checked cameras, cleared trails and planted a food plot which you might remember from this post.
Otherwise I have to wait until October to hunt in my home state of Virginia. I’ve got a couple of weekends tentatively scheduled but would like to get to back to Highland County to do another back pack hunt as we saw LOADS of deer when I spent 4 days turkey hunting up there. It would be amazing to take a deer from such a fun and scenic property.
You’ll notice that distinctively missing from the line up so far is heading to Colorado to elk hunt with Mark of SoleAdventure.com that I had planned earlier on. I said this year I wasn’t making excuses, that I was going to do it no matter what. Well, a few grand worth of medical bills destroyed that budget in a hurry so unfortunately that hunt will have to wait. Luck would have it though that even though I didn’t draw a Kentucky elk tag, Mark did! So even though I’m not able to technically hunt I’m tagging along with Mark on his Kentucky elk hunt. No license fees for me and only a 6 or 7 hour drive make it MUCH easier on the budget! So more to come on that.
For now, I’m focused on hitting the road tonight for the 3 hour drive over to the eastern shore for a couple of days of hunting, catching up with friends and making some memories. I haven’t hunted with these guys in about 5 years so it will be a blast! I’m sure I’ll be blowing up Twitter and Instagram with photos and updates so be sure to follow along for updates!
